FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Are your products ethical?

I’m passionate about all my products and packaging incorporating ethically sourced materials wherever possible. By purchasing my products you will also be supporting many charities too (listed in the 'About Me' tab). The driftwood I source from the UK and comb the beaches myself every time I visit Cornwall and Devon. The brass pieces (rings and tubing etc) are made in Europe from reputable companies and the pre-formed wood pieces (hoops and beads etc) are sourced from companies who use untreated wood from sustainable forests. My boxes are 100% recyclable (either reused from my material orders or recycled boxes bought new). My tissue paper is acid free and recyclable. My bubblewrap is Oxo-degradable bubble wrap, which is a more environmentally friendly form of cushion packaging, and is 100% recyclable. This bubble wrap is treated with raw materials which do not contain heavy metals. When the bubble film is exposed to the combined effects of sunlight, stress, microbes and heat the end result is a product which is digested harmlessly by micro organisms and turned into the basic elements of carbon dioxide, water and biomass.

Can I return my purchase?

My purchase looks different to the photo?

This hopefully is unlikely to happen in a way that you are unhappy with! But these are handmade products, made by my hands and without any patterns. They are not mass produced. I will not let a piece leave my little workshop unless I am 100% happy with it. With some of the more tassely pieces like the 'Ow kara' ond 'Howlsedhes kara', they will require a bit of shaping to achieve the puffed out look with the point at the bottom. This is easily done by shaking the piece then running your fingers through the wool and pinching it at the base. As always just ask if you have any questions or need more guidance, elle@bamaluzhome.com

Packaging & Postage costs (UK & International)

Packaging To get your piece to you safely I use boxes made with recycled cardboard as this is something very important to me. Most are new boxes, but some larger pieces I re-use some boxes as I get a lot of deliveries too! I also use green biodegradable bubble-wrap. I then gift wrap everything in recycled tissue-paper with my handmade finishes. Postage UK I have a flat rate of £4.50 for postage and packaging in the UK, this includes Royal Mail Signed for 2nd class delivery. Larger items postage is £9 as I have to use Parcelforce. Postage International* Europe: £11 or £21 for large items (4-10 working days, but on very rare occations can be up to 2 weeks or longer if held in customs, if this happens it is out of my control). Rest of the World: £17 or £31 for large items (7-10 working days, but on very rare occations can be up to a month if held in customs, if this happens it is out of my control). *If you order from our site for delivery outside the United Kingdom, the parcel may be subject to import duties and taxes which are applied once the delivery reaches the specified destination. You will be responsible for payment of any such import duties and taxes. Please note that I have no control over these charges. If you would like further information please contact your local customs office before placing your order. Please also note that you must comply with all applicable laws and regulations of the country for which the products are destined. I will not be liable for any breach by you of any such laws.

How do I clean my purchase?

With the cushions and wall hangings I recommend you spot clean only with a clean damp cloth if they get dirty. I have not tried a washine machine yet...I presume the outcome would not be so good!

How do I hang my wall hanging?

As soon as you unwrap your piece, hold it at the top and give it a gentle little shake back and forth to loosen up the wool. Run your fingers through the tassels gently and any creases will soon disappear once your piece is hung up. I will always attach some wool to hang your piece on a wall hook of your choice. You can cut off this loop if you prefer to hang straight onto the brass pole/wood if applicable. I use the standard brass nail-in hooks which come in different sizes, or there are some great hooks that use special adhesive if you don't want to nail into your walls (they are called Command strips and most of my weavings are light enough to use these).

I'm buying a driftwood piece, can I pick the driftwood?

Yes of course! When or before you place your order, just let me know via email if you would like to choose your own and I can email accross a photo of the pieces I have available for the size you are interested in.

I want to order a 'Bespoke' piece, how does it work?

If you like my style but have something specific in mind, please do get in touch! I'll happily discuss this with you and give you a quote for your own bespoke piece. Payment If you are happy for me to go ahead with your piece I then require 50% of the cost upfront for materials etc. Then I will start making and send you photos as I go. The final 50% plus postage is required on completion. Your piece will be shipped as soon as final payment has been made. Returns I do not accept returns on bespoke orders (unless it arrives damaged of course). If you order a bespoke piece though we will of course have lots of communication along the way to ensure you are totally in love with your piece!

I love your designs but I'd like to change something slightly?

If there is something I have already made but you would like something very slightly different done (wool colour, slight design changes) then do get in touch and we can discuss! Just email me at elle@bamaluzhome.com Payment This is made in full, then I will begin your order. Returns I do not accept returns unless it arrives damaged of course.

What language is used for your product's names?

It's Cornish! If you speak Cornish and I have used the wrong word etc, please let me know! I wanted to incorporate the language in my pieces as it is so rarely used. I also hope to one day meet someone who can speak the language then I can hear it in all it's beauty!

Is the driftwood clean?

Yes! It's been washed, scrubbed, sat in a bath of disinfectant to kill off any little critters, then washed again about 3 more times, scrubbed once more, then aired out to dry for 6 weeks. It is a long process!

How do you work out your prices?

The final price for my pieces incorporates 3 components... 1. The price of all the materials used. 2. The hours I spent making the piece. 3. A little bit of profit to pay my bills! Weaving is not a quick process, hours are spent doing initial designs and then actually making the piece. I've since started encorpourating 'felting' into some of my wallhangings, this process takes even longer than weaving and each piece of the handmade felted element are totally unique and can never be exactly the same as the next.

I want to buy something for my nursery, is it safe?

All my pieces are for decoration use ONLY and not intended to be used as toys or in any way reachable by small hands. Please ensure items are ALWAYS well out of reach and securely hung.

Do you gift wrap?

Of course! I've hand made everything I can, so you can be assured that just as much love goes into the packaging. To get your piece to you safely I use boxes made with recycled cardboard as this is something very important to me. Some larger pieces I re-use boxes I have received as I get a lot of deliveries too! I also use green biodegradable bubble-wrap when needed. I then gift wrap everything in recycled tissue-paper with my handmade finishes.

Other colours available.

Yes! For the thinner wool, which most of the weavings are made from, There are many colours available and I have listed photos below. I really love the wool I have choosen, for many reasons. Not only does a percentage of the cost go to The Womens Institute charity, but I love the way it weaves and hangs. PLEASE NOTE: the colour in batches of all wool can vary slightly, so if you want anything to match exactly it is best to purchase all at the same time so the same batch of wool is used. The thicker fluffy Merino wool can be found in any colour...here are a few I usually have in stock (but I can always source more!)

How long till I receive my order? (UK & International)

For 'made to order' pieces, please see delivery time on individual listing for more information. For 'ready to ship' pieces, I post those 3 - 5 days after the order is placed. (if you are in a rush do let me know and I'll see what I can do).

Once dispatched for delivery within the UK, I will email you a unique reference number which can then be used to monitor the progress of your delivery online via the Royal Mail/Parcelforce Track and Trace tool. Delivery generally takes between 3-5 working days but please be advised this could be longer and is beyond my control.

For International deliveries, I will also email you a unique reference number which can then be used to monitor the progress of your delivery online via the Royal Mail/Parcelforce Track and Trace tool. Delivery generally takes between 5-7 working days but please be advised this could be longer (up to 5 weeks on rare occasions) due to your country's location, public holidays and customs handling and this is beyond my control.
